单词 归功于
释义 〔sack〕The wordsack may seem an odd candidate for preserving a few thousand years of history, but this word for an ordinary thing probably goes back to Middle Eastern antiquity.Sack owes its long history to the fact that it and its ancestors denoted an object that was used in trade between peoples. Thus the Greeks got their wordsakkos, "a bag made out of coarse cloth or hair,” from the Phoenicians with whom they traded. We do not know the Phoenician word, but we know words that are akin to it,such as Hebrewsaq and Akkadian saqqu. The Greeks then passed the sack, as it were, to the Latin-speaking Romans, who transmitted their wordsaccus, "a large bag or sack,” to the Germanic tribes with whom they traded, who gave it the form .sakkiz (other peoples as well have taken this word from Greek or Latin, including speakers of Welsh, Russian, Polish, and Albanian). The speakers of Old English, a Germanic language, used two forms of the word,sæc, from .sakkiz, and sacc, directly from Latin; the second Old English form is the ancestor of oursack. sack 讲古英语(一种日耳曼语言)的人用这个词的两种形式:源自sakkiz 的 sæc 和源自拉丁语的 sacc ; 这第二种古英语的形式是我们现在的sack 的前身 〔attribute〕"Some excellent remarks were made on immortality, but mainly borrowed from and credited to Plato" (Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr.). “一些优秀的言论是不朽的,但主要从柏拉图处借用并归功于他” (奥立佛·温德尔·霍姆斯爵士)。〔graduate〕This pattern, which no longer bears any taint of incorrectness,is acceptable to 89 percent of the Panel. It has the advantage of ascribing the accomplishment to the student, rather than to the institution,as is usually appropriate in discussions of individual cases. When the institution's responsibility is emphasized, however, the older pattern may still be recommended.A sentence such asThe university graduated more computer science majors in 1987 than in the entire previous decade stresses the university's accomplishment, say, of its computer science program. On the other hand, the sentenceMore computer science majors graduated in 1987 than in the entire previous decade implies that the class of 1987 was in some way a remarkable group. · The transitive use ofgraduate, as inShe graduated Yale in 1980, was unacceptable to 77 percent of the Usage Panel. 这种方式不再有不正确的问题,并为小组百分之八十九的成员所接受,其优点是将成就归功于学生而不是学院,通常在讨论单个事例时是合适的。当学院的责任被强调时,旧方式则可能得到推崇。句子:The university graduated more computer science majors in 1987 than in the entire previous decade。 强调了该大学计算机科学项目上的成就。 另一方面,句子:More computer science majors graduated in 1987 than in the entire previous decade。 指1987级从某种意义上来说是个出色的群体。 至于graduate 的及物用法, 如在她于1980年毕业于耶鲁大学 用法使用专题小组百分之七十七的成员表示不接受 〔attribute〕"We usually ascribe good; but impute evil" (Samuel Johnson). “我们经常归功于 好的东西; 但是归咎于 恶的东西” (塞缪尔·约翰逊)。〔acknowledgment〕The act of admitting or owning to something.承认:确认或归功于…的行为〔owe〕owed their riches to oil; owes her good health to diet and exercise.有了石油才有他们的财富;她的健康归功于饮食和锻炼〔credit〕credit the invention to him.See Synonyms at attribute 将这项发明归功于他 参见 attribute〔Cyrillic〕Of, relating to, or constituting the old Slavic alphabet ascribed to Saint Cyril, at present used in modified form for Russian, Bulgarian, certain other Slavic languages, and other languages of the Soviet Union.西里尔字母的:旧斯拉夫语字母被归功于圣西里尔的,现在改造的形式用于俄语、保加利亚语、某些其他斯拉夫语和其他苏联语的,或与其有关的,或由其组成的〔impute〕To attribute; credit:归于;归功于,赞誉:〔Glagolitic〕Belonging to or written in an uncial cursive alphabet attributed to Saint Cyril, formerly used in the writing of various Slavic languages but now limited to the Catholic liturgical books used by some communities along the Dalmation coast.格来哥里字母表的:归功于圣·西尔里的属于或用安色拉草写体的字母表,从前用它收发各种斯拉夫语言,但现在只在达尔马拉亚海岸的一些团体的天主教礼拜仪式的书中使用〔Goldsmith〕British writer whose literary reputation rests on his novelThe Vicar of Wakefield (1766), the pastoral poem The Deserted Village (1770), and the dramatic comedy She Stoops to Conquer (1773). 戈德史密斯,奥利弗:(1730?-1774) 英国作家,他在文学界的名声主要归功于他的小说《威克菲尔德的牧师》 (1766年),田园诗 《荒村》 (1770年)和悲剧 《委屈求全》 (1773年)
